Ketone (3). To freshly prepared active Zn in DCM (from 6.54 g, 0.10 mol of Zn dust and CuCl (0.99 g, 0.01 mol) in 30 mL DCM refluxed under N2 for 30 min, then addition of 0.05 mol of CH2I2 at r.t. and 1 more hour of reflux) was added slowly olefin 1 (0.05 mol) in 10 mL DCM at 0–5 C under N2, followed by 0.10 mol of 2 in 10 mL DCM over 15 min at 15–20 C (exothermic, color change to red-brown). After 2 h, the mixture was refluxed for 2 h and 30 mL of 10% aq
H2SO4 was added with cooling. Filtration, ether extraction, workup and evaporation afforded 3 (63%).
